Why do SILAE journals have article-processing charges?
Open access publishing is not without costs. SILAE defrays these costs through article-processing charges because it does not have subscription charges for its research content.
SILAE instead believes that immediate, worldwide, barrier-free, open access to the full text of research articles is in the best interests of the scientific community.

What do the article-processing charges pay for?
Article-processing charges pay for:
• Immediate, worldwide open access to the full article text
• Developing and maintaining electronic tools for peer review and publication
• Preparation in various formats for online publication
• Securing inclusion in CrossRef, enabling electronic citation in other journals that are available electronically

How much is PhOL charging?
For each article accepted for publication, PhOL levies an article-processing charge of 300€ (Euro) / 387$ (USD) for authors from European Union, U.S.A., Japan and 120€ (Euro) / $155 (USD) for others countries.

Does SILAE offer discounts on article-processing charges?
SILAE   active member   will get 25% discount of full charge

Do authors from low-income countries have to pay Charges?
Authors from more than 80 low-income countries (see below) receive automatic waivers on submission and do not have to pay article-processing charges. This policy is supported by SILAE Open access waiver fund.

How do SILAE charges compare with other publishers?
SILAE's article-processing charges are extremely competitive. Charges are the lowest of any publisher offering open access publication.

Are any taxes included in this charge?
No taxes are included in this charge. Authors resident in any European Union country have to add Value-Added Tax (VAT, currently 210).

Who is responsible for making the payment?
Whoever submits the manuscript is responsible for making or arranging the payment (for instance, via his or her institution).

Open access waiver fund
SILAE provides an automatic waiver to authors based in any of the following countries, which was classified by the World Bank as Low-income economies or Lower-middle-income economies as of December 2011, and which has a 2010 gross domestic product of less than 200 billion US dollars (reference - World Bank 1st December 2011).
